Alternative Medicine Books about alternative medicine

What is alternative medicine?

Alternative medicine broadly describes methods and practices used in place of, or in addition to, conventional medical treatments. The precise scope of alternative medicine is a matter of some debate and depends to a great extent on the definition of "conventional medicine."

The debate on alternative medicine is complicated further by the diversity of treatments that are categorized as "alternative." These include practices that incorporate spiritual, metaphysical, or religious underpinnings; non-European medical traditions; newly developed approaches to healing; and a number of others. Proponents of one class of alternative medicine may reject others.

Detractors from alternative medicine may also define it as "diagnosis, treatment, or therapy which can be provided legally by persons who are not licensed to diagnose and treat illness", although some medical doctor find value using alternative therapies in the practice of "complementary medicine".

Many in the scientific community define alternative medicine as any treatment, the efficacy and safety of which has not been verified through peer-reviewed, controlled studies.

The boundaries of alternative medicine have changed over time as a number of techniques and therapies once considered to be "alternative" have been accepted by mainstream medicine.

Reviews:

What the book really says...
In the review: "Buyer Beware! Raw meat kills..."Reviewer Shani most likely has not read this book, as what Kliment says is not to drink raw milk, rather to look for organic milk that has been safely pasteurized with different techniques to retain important enzymes. She writes:

Milk Raw,p. 24-24: "It was common for physicians in the early part of the twentieth century to use raw milk and butter made from raw milk for therapeutic purposes... Federal and state laws requiring pasteurization of dairy products, however, make raw milk almost impossible to come by. Most agribusiness dairies heat their milk to 212 degrees. Louis Pasteur discovered that milk heated to 140 degrees for one-half hour was enough to kill bacteria. The purpose of boiling the milk at 212 degrees is not to keep the public safe from bacteria that causes disease but to extend the shelf life of the product... I buy a brand of organic milk called Organic Life that hasn't been heated to such a high temperture that all the enzymes have been destroyed and will spoil in two days if not used. A brand of milk that seems to last forever in the refrigerator, even if it is labeled organic, should be avoided."

Kliment addresses other raw foods (meat, eggs...) in the same safe and insightful manner as she discusses milk. Even an improperly balanced vegetarian diet can potentially lead to degenerative diseases, and Kliment discusses those diets as well, providing many safe and effective dietary plans.

There are so many different dietary recommendations in this book that if one doesn't suit your style, then there are others that are equally effective.

Superficial reviews are unfair to readers
This is a good and useful book. I recommend readers see for themselves -- and don't believe reviewers who are over-excited by the word "raw". They've got the wrong end of the stick.

For example, one such reviewer swipes the book for recommending raw milk. The book doesn't do this. It says to look for organic milk that's pasteurized (140 degrees F) but not boiled (212 degrees F). Pasteurized organic milk is not raw milk. See pages 23, 24.

A Book Worth Reading - Interesing and Useful
First, I take issue with alarmist generalizations in the "Buyer Beware: Raw Meat Kills" review. It looks as if the reviewer hasn't read the book. If he or she had read it, they'd have seen it is well-researched and well-reasoned. Who needs more scare tactics these days?
My main point is how good the Acid Alkaline Balance Diet book is. I've wondered about acidic wastes and how harmful they are to one's health, but I'd not read about this before. The range of illnesses the book covers is impressive. It also explains things in a way that makes sophisticated material easy to understand. It's interesting. I also appreciate --and will use -- its down-to-earth suggestions to pursue my own greater health and well-being. Thank you, Ms. Drury Kliment.
The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet
This was a very interesting book about our bodies and how what we put into it effects us.
concerned
As a Holistic Practitioner, I'm concerned about the advice to eat raw animal meat, especially since it can create imbalance in your energy system to consume animal meat raw.

However, I am a believer in an Alkaline body for maintaining wellness and also curing disease, but I would warn only to eat vegtables, fruit, seeds and beans in raw form.
