Alternative Medicine Books about naturopathy

What is naturopathy?

Founded upon a holistic philosophy, naturopathic medicine combines safe and effective traditional therapies with the most current advances in modern medicine. Naturopathic medicine is appropriate for the management of a broad range of health conditions affecting all people of all ages.

Naturopathic physicians (N.D.s) are the highest trained practitioners in the broadest scope of naturopathic medical modalities. In addition to the basic medical sciences and conventional diagnostics, naturopathic education includes therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, natural childbirth, classical Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy, pharmacology and minor surgery.

Good book for all

Rarely do we get health books with such an authentic and original message. The author's personal story of his relentless battle with an incurable disease is very inspiring. His experience with alternative medicine and the cure that he eventually discovered gives hope to everyone with an incurable disease. This book is great for anyone that is looking to eat right and find out about nutrition from another perspective. It is almost like a collaboration of all the diets out there. It really takes all the essential parts of them and puts them together with adding some extra points to direct you to the right place. For further great reading about proper food combination, alternative medicine, self-help, health and longevity I very strongly recommend "Can We Live 150" by M. Tombak. Many excerpts from Tombak's book are available at his website.
Excellent companion to the Maker's Diet
Patient Heal Thyself is about 60% the same information as the Maker's Diet, but in some areas it covers information more thoroughly which is very helpful when you're trying to absorb this major lifestyle change. PHT went into more detail on what the different supplements can do for you and why they work, it went into more detail on clinical studies conducted to prove the Diet's truths, and half the book discussed specific ailments and what dietary changes should be made to achieve optimal health. All I can say regarding the Maker's Diet and PHT is that this is the time of year my three children suffer with horrible allergies, including once a week shots and are on 5-6 different asthma medicines and now after a month on the diet and the supplement Primal Defense, they're symptom free.
Biblical? I don't think so.....
The thing that frustrates me about the author is how he professes to be a Christian when he appears on various Christian shows yet his book pretty much pushes his over priced and in my opinion, needless supplements, which are lacking in Biblical value in my opinion.

Does one honestly think that God would create high cost supplements that only well off Christians could buy, thus ignoring the millions of people in all countries who often can barely afford a bowl of oatmeal?

How about getting people to simply eat inexpensive whole foods and get more free exercise in the form of walking? How about recognizing if one is a Christian, that the Bible tells us in both the Jewish texts and in the New Testament pretty much all we need to know about good healthy food, getting enough sleep, being productive physically, and using prayer to help with stress and other issues?

And if you do need more energy start with a whole B complex vitamin from your local health food store. And if you want some healthy whole Biblically based foods, recipes get a book like What Would Jesus Eat by Don Colbert or the book A Mediterranean Feast by Clifford A. Wright that is full of whole healthy foods that come from the middle east and are what Christ and his followers would have eaten.

As a Christian all I need do is read up on Biblical history and that people ate less, walked more, consumed little meat, but more fish, and didn't have all the modern day
toys and gadgets that we have that not only make life more stressful, but people more lazy.
Amazing! He saved my life!
At 29, I was in intensive care for three weeks suffering from pancreatitis and almost died. An anonomous friend sent me his book while I was recovering. For someone who only has 20% pancreatic function, this book is a god sent. Where doctors could not help with thier massive arsenol of perscriptions, Jordan has. I have since started ALL of his natural supplements and have had great relief in all my symptoms. Including my asthma! I'll never be 'cured', but I have found relief! I have read ALL of his books and consider my self a "Rubinite". If you are looking for natural help, not perscriptions with many side effects, Rubin is the way to go! Remember you must practice what he writes, not just read it! Another resource would be Kevin Trudeau's books.
This book is very insightful and educational, but a word of caution
The recommendations and supplements in this book are an excellent way to improving your overall health, and in some circumstances may even lessen dependence on maintenence drugs for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The diet as well as some of the supplements are extremely helpful to those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. However, Crohn's diease and ulcerative colitis are very serious chronic, degenerative diseases that are completely different than IBS.

I have worked closely with my doctor and personally have greatly benefited from incorporating Jordan's suggestions and supplements (Primal Defense, Omegazyme) into my diet and lifestyle. In addition, I regularly and consistantly take the matienence medication my docotor has prescribed. I have been in remission for 1 year and I believe that the suggestions in this book have supported the treatment I am receiving.

However, it did not cure me, nor will it cure anyone else with an autoimmune disease. Remission is not the same as being cured. Crohn's, ulcerative Colitis, and other similar diseases start with an hyperactive immune response to the digestive tract as well as the joints and therefore cannot be cured with diet alone. Medication is necessary to control and regulate the body's overactive immune response, allowing Jordan's diet and supplements to support the body in healing itself.

As a Crohn's and ulcerative Colitis patient for 15 years, I am disturbed by Jordan's completely unsubstantiated claim to have been "cured" of Crohn's. This is irresponsible, and even potentially dangerous to those who have autoimmune dieases and may quit taking their medications.

The diseases his methods claim to cure by their very nature have periods of fare-ups followed by periods of remission. It is important to understand that there is a significant percentage of people who will have the first flare up of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, become critically ill, only to suddenly and inexplicably go into remission, with or without treatment.

Jordan's lack of symptoms prove nothing about the state of his health. His experience mirrors many patients first onset of the disease, including my own.

This book is no substitution for a competant, resourceful gastrointerologist and effective medications. Jordan's diet and supplements, as well as the other suggestions in this book complement, rather than replace, medication.
