Alternative Medicine Books about naturopathy

What is naturopathy?

Founded upon a holistic philosophy, naturopathic medicine combines safe and effective traditional therapies with the most current advances in modern medicine. Naturopathic medicine is appropriate for the management of a broad range of health conditions affecting all people of all ages.

Naturopathic physicians (N.D.s) are the highest trained practitioners in the broadest scope of naturopathic medical modalities. In addition to the basic medical sciences and conventional diagnostics, naturopathic education includes therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, natural childbirth, classical Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy, pharmacology and minor surgery.

Reviews:

Extensive and Very Informative
I found this book to be such a great reference for natural cures for diseases. Although some methods are not presented in the book (e.g.: hydrogen peroxide therapy, magnet therapy, etc.), it is still extremely extensive and very well written. If you have ANY ailment, a solution can be found in this book. I found this book to be very well used in conjunction with the book "Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements". Additionally, the MD and ND that wrote the natural cures book explain, scientifically and logically, each disease and each method to cure it. A great read for anyone who wants to cure themselves of any disease.
Broaden your horizons
It might not be your health bible but it is certainly a good resource guide of holistic medicine. A book well worth considering for anyone serious about his or her wellbeing. The authors present an overview of basic alternative therapies, including nutrition (healing foods) and supplements, as well as traditional Chinese medicine. I think it is a good book for any open-minded person. Another, great book of similar subject matter is "Can We Live 150 Year" by Tombak. In fact these two books should be sold together as they support and complement each other.
Prescription for Natural Cures
The book was organized so that you could find any subject very easily. It provides up to date easy to understand information and suggestions for natural medications for all major illnesses a person may encounter. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to use natural products rather than prescription drugs to relieve the symtoms of these illnesses.
Excellent Reference for a Family

This is the more recent (2004 versus 2000) and the more comprehensive of two books that I have bought and use, but I do recommend that the other book, Bill Gottlieb's "Alternative Cures" be bought at well.

This book distinguishes itself by routinely including, in addition to clearly laid out natural herbal prescriptions, what the options are that might be effective in Acupressure, Bodywork, Stress Reduction, Bach Flower Remedies, and Other Recommendations.

All informatioon has to be taken with a grain of salt, but I have found that by combining the recommendations from this book with those of Bill Gottlieb, I get a better over-all sense of where there is consensus, and I get a clearer picture of what natural cures to select from the broad range that both books recommend in different ways.

This is the better of the two books, but it is not sufficient to stand alone. The two together provide a superior meld of knowledge tailored to each individual reader's needs.
Excellent reference
It's no surprise that with the increasing costs of traditional medicine (not to mention the invasive nature of some treatments and the alarming side effects of most prescription drugs) many are turning to natural or alternative remedies. Balch and Stengler provide a great source of information on everything from herbs and other supplements to accupuncture and bodywork. For each condition listed in the book, the authors offer 7 super prescriptions (7 supplements). I've been using the remedies for lower back pain and I've found them very helpful.
