Alternative Medicine Books about new age healing

What is new age healing?

New Age Healing is commonly known as alternative medicine, which broadly describes methods and practices used in place of, or in addition to, conventional medical treatments. The precise scope of alternative medicine is a matter of some debate and depends to a great extent on the definition of "conventional medicine."

The debate on alternative medicine is complicated further by the diversity of treatments that are categorized as "alternative." These include practices that incorporate spiritual, metaphysical, or religious underpinnings; non-European medical traditions; newly developed approaches to healing; and a number of others. Proponents of one class of alternative medicine may reject others.

Detractors from alternative medicine may also define it as "diagnosis, treatment, or therapy which can be provided legally by persons who are not licensed to diagnose and treat illness", although some medical doctor find value using alternative therapies in the practice of "complementary medicine".

Many in the scientific community define alternative medicine as any treatment, the efficacy and safety of which has not been verified through peer-reviewed, controlled studies.

The boundaries of alternative medicine have changed over time as a number of techniques and therapies once considered to be "alternative" have been accepted by mainstream medicine.

Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field

Barbara Brennan

Bantam, 1988-05-01

Price: $27.00

Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field, by Barbara Ann Brennan, is a scientist's look at the field of bioenergetic healing, offering specific techniques towards expanding perceptual tools of healing, seeing auras, understanding psychodynamics and the human energy field, and spiritual healing. Trained as a physicist and psychotherapist, Brennan has spent the last 15 years studying the human energy field and working as a healer. Hands of Light goes beyond conventional, objective knowledge while retaining scientific clarity. It details a study of the human energy field and how it is intimately connected to a person's health and well being and contains essential information for anyone involved in healing and conscious health care, including people seeking to heal themselves. Science and spirituality may currently be at odds, but fortunately there will always be scientists who are spiritual seekers, and it is in the mingling of the two worlds where wisdom is born. --Jodie Buller

Reviews:

Learning to be a Healer
I am a devote Christian and I am frustrated of how the church, and I mean born-again denominational churches, treat "hands-on" healing as just like a "miracle". This book taught me that it is not just a "miracle". WE ARE A MIRACLE OURSELVES LIVING ON A MIRACULOUS BLOB OF ENRGY CALLED EARTH. WE ARE CAPABLE OF HEALING OURSELVES BECAuSE GOD IS IN US-EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US-HE IS IN US. HE CREATED A REAL UNIVERSE-MATTER AND ENERGY-INTACT and Barbara Brennan-a human form of love and compassion, a scientist and a healer-is an instrument of God who is being used to explain this (not so called) 'mysteries' of our cosmos thru this book. I am learning from her book and I am delighted to be enlightened. I can tell all here that COMPASSION AND LOVE WORKS. I can tell you that I can see auras and chakras now after reading her book but I sill have to deal some issues with myself that when I know it has been dealt with, I know I will be able to heal myself and heal others. You too can...
Barbara rocks

I really like some of the information she has in this book. It is very well organized and comprehensive, even if she does contradict herself a time or two. Some of the illustrations are real good. I work with people energetically and some of my experiences paralell hers. I did check out Energetic Anatomy by Mark rich and his book is pretty good, too. He writes about some things Barbara has left out though his book is shorter.
Even if you don't believe everything she has in there it is still well written. Maybe it will make the MD's open their minds. (doubtful)
Comprehensive
This book is very comprehensive and offers a good starting point for beginners. It is very detailed. Sometimes she digresses, but only to make a specific point. I continue to use it as a great refrence.
not necessarily the most accurate anymore
I, like many, was blown away when I first read 'Hands of Light'. It is a very good book, even if channeling is over-emphasized (be careful just what it is you are channeling and do you really need to channel anyway...) but there are many books out there now that include things left out of 'Hands of Light'. For example, I have found that 'Energetic Anatomy' by Mark Rich (hard to find; energeticanatomy.com is the only way I found) is just as mind-blowing and has details that other books like Hands of Light leave out. So, this book is good, but it is not the be-all end-all. Multiple sources is the best way to go in this field.
A Comprehensive Guide to Healing
This book should be read by everyone, and especially those interested in the integrative hands-on healing modality and how it can fit into the conventional world. When reading this book, those knowledgeable about these subjects will find a common thread by other authors/books and a better understanding and substantiation will result. Other authors/books for those on the spiritual healing path are:- "Power Healing" by John Wimber, " "The Power of Divine: A Healer's Guide -Tapping into the Miracle" - by Tiffany Snow and "Quantum Touch" by Richard
